HOW TO EAT MORE FRUIT & VEG!

We all want to eat more fruit and veg! We know it’s good for us! But how do we do it? And more importantly, how to we add more more of the good stuff onto our plates without thinking we have to give up the food we love?

Guess what - it’s not about giving up the foods that tickle your fancy, it’s just about adding more fruit and veg and finding a little bit of balance! Enjoy your pizza with a big salad or a Friday night burger with a delicious, crunchy slaw.

Here are our 6 top tips to help you add more of the good stuff to your daily dishes.

 

1. START THE DAY RIGHT.

Add chopped fruit to your usual cereal, oats, pancakes or even on toast. If you’re rustling up  a delicious brunch at the weekend, try adding some roast  tomatoes, pan fried mushrooms or wilted spinach.

2. SWAP YOUR SNACKS!

Packaged snacks are generally full of empty calories! You can make a satisfying swap to chopped slices of apples, pears or celery sticks topped with your favourite nut butter OR if your prefer a savoury snack, chopped raw veggies like carrots, cucumber, cauliflower or peppers with a small pot of hummus to dip them in is always a winner!

3. START A SOUP HABIT!

Veg packed soup is a great way of totting up you veg intake and makes a particularly filling lunch. We find it really time efficient to make a batch and potion it up for the freezer, ready to heat up and enjoy throughout the week.

4. SPIRALIZE!

Spiralized or peeled veggies like courgette, butternut or sweet potato make a great alternative or addition to pasta or noodles. You don’t have to replace the noodles or pasta completely, start with adding a handful or two to your usual spaghetti or stir fried noodles - the veggies will add another lovely flavour and texture.

5. PLAY HIDE & SEAK!

Add extra veggies to tomato based and cheezy sauces, - we’ve got a brilliant 7 veg pasta sauce recipe that hides the veggies… it’s like they’re not even there… And guessing how many veggies or what veggies are in the sauce is a great game to play over dinner! Serve it with pasta, over crispy potatoes or mix it through hot beans and wilted greens.
